About Redwood Climate Office Hours Event
Github co-founder Tom Preston-Werner has announced the Redwood Startup Fund , focused on ideation stage climate startups that use the RedwoodJS app framework as a primary component in their stack. As part of the fund launch, we are hosting a panel-style discussion, hosted by Tom Preston-Werner and David Price. Our panelists are investors and climate startup founders who will be sharing their experiences and answering any questions that can help others in their own climate startup journey.
Meet our Hosts and Panelists
Our Hosts
Tom Preston-Werner is cofounder of Preston-Werner Ventures. Tom started his first business, Gravatar, in 2003 and sold it to Automattic in 2007. Since then he’s created many open source projects that have changed the way developers work and are used in millions of open-and closed-source projects. Tom is also known for cofounding GitHub which was bought by Microsoft in 2018. Tom is currently the cofounder and Chief Product Officer at Chatterbug.
David Price is Developer in Residence at Preston-Werner Ventures, focusing on the alignment of innovation and human flourishing. He supports general initiative and Hypothesis projects with an eye towards technology ethics, team formation, and expansion of product benefits across stakeholders. David has experience across industries as a multi-disciplinary entrepreneur.
Our Panelists
Laura Zizzo is co-founder and CEO of Manifest Climate, a SaaS platform that empowers organizations to navigate the climate transformation. She is a trained lawyer, communicator, and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience leading organizations towards a low-carbon and climate-adapted future. Laura is a respected advisor to leading North American financial institutions, as well as local and international governments. She is a leading voice on the legal imperative to adapt to climate change and the need to bring climate into the core of business considerations.
Laura started her legal career with a prominent global law firm before founding the first law firm in Canada focused on climate change in 2009. As a respected speaker on the move to the low-carbon economy and implications for investors, she has addressed audiences representing over $1 Trillion in assets under management (AUM). She is a published author and frequently writes for both academic and business media. Laura sits on the University of Toronto’s Law Alumni Association and on the boards of the Clean Air Partnership and Shift Action.
Jeremy Greven is a veteran technology entrepreneur, investor, and startup mentor. Jeremy brings over 20 years of growth, technology, and innovation experience to the Manifest team.
Before joining Manifest, Jeremy was the Founder and CEO of Prompt Alert, ranked in Profit Magazine’s Top 500 Fastest Growing Companies and Profit HOT 50 Technology Startups. Jeremy grew Prompt Alert from inception through to its successful exit in 2014 to Stericycle, a $10 billion NASDAQ-listed company. In the five years leading up to its acquisition, Prompt Alert grew 1,262% with 95% of its revenue originating internationally.
At Stericycle, Jeremy held the role of VP, Innovation and Strategy where his team was responsible for defining and delivering on the company’s vision for future products. Within this role, he was a member of the mergers and acquisitions team-working on transactions exceeding 850M.
As an active member of the Canadian tech community, Jeremy volunteers in a variety of non-profit roles. He is Chairman of the Board at Peerscale, a non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to empowering the success of technology CEOs, COOs, and senior executives. He is also an Associate at the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL). Founded at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, CDL is a seed-stage program for massively scalable science and technology-based companies.
