Don’t miss the Conference updates at the end regarding:
- Session CFP is now open
- Prism and Apollo workshops are a go!
Bighorn Progress
I’m working on improving transparency and communication as we go. This is a step in that direction!
How to follow current progress
Under @mojombo’s design direction along with @Tobbe and @danny, the work is underway and organized into three parts:
- Vite as the default Web bundler; Redwood Router re-architecting — both included in current v6-rc
- SSR capability (targeting v7)
- RSC implementation in parallel to SSR (requires Vite, Router, and SSR)
The merged PRs related to items 2 and 3 are labeled with the v7 milestone. And the public roadmap is here: redwoodjs.com/roadmap (See in particular the project in the “SSR + RSC” initiative.)
There’s no feature branch — the work is targeting main
(published as @canary
releases) so we can move fast. Additionally, Tobbe is architecting this to be enabled as a feature flag so we can ship experimental → preview → stable. If you want to see what’s currently active, either check out the Notion projects for related PRs or take a look a recent, open PRs by Tobbe.
Slack Channel Working Group
In addition to initiating discussions about RSC with the community and startups using Redwood, we’ve created a working group channel. So far this 19-member group (about a third of which are from the Redwood team) is talking about Vite, ESM, Apollo, Auth, and, of course, RSC. The Core Team already collaborates with over 20 companies (Clerk, Prisma, Storybook, The Guild, Apollo, Vercel, etc.), so it’s a natural progression to organize project discussions with them.
Town Hall Discussion
We had our monthly Town Hall meetup yesterday. Tom introduced the the next epoch, Bighorn, and our roadmap to RSC. Recording on YouTube is here:
